BIODIVERSITY SHORT FILM CONTEST · 2025

The main objective of the Short Film contest is to promote the biological natural heritage, namely the natural regions, the ecosystems, the habitats and the species of wild fauna and flora, through the selection and classification of cinematographic works related to this subject. It also aims to promote cinematography of nature and promote its growth and development, as well as launching the debate and reflection of society on the need to knowing, promoting and conserving the biodiversity and the environment.

Participation in the Short Film Contest is open to all.

Jury












Carlos Morais

Carlos Morais was born in Luanda and grew up in Vila Real, where he completed his secondary education. He holds a degree in Art and Communication – Multimedia and a bachelor’s degree in Cinema from the Porto Higher School of Arts. His career crosses audiovisual media, journalism, and the arts.
He has professional experience in radio, print media, photography, he´s as a long career experience, more that two decades, as cameraman at SIC and SIC Notícias (2000-2025), where he was responsible for the images of several major award-winning reports, notably the Gazeta Television Award in 2021, the Cáceres Monteiro Reporting Award in 2017, and the UNESCO National Commission Journalism Award in 2015. He has also explored artistic creation and production, in the music, theatre, documentary filmmaking, and multimedia arts, collaborating with various creators and cultural producers.
Founder of Inculta.tv, a website dedicated to the alternative culture of Grande Porto, he has been combining image, memory, and technological experimentation in all his activities. He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Digital Cultural Heritage at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro.







Carlos Sousa

Carlos is passionate about photography and video. He works in the audiovisual field (more specifically in promotional and wedding photography) and as part-time he is a trainer in the same area.
Whenever possible, he takes walks in nature, always with his camera in hand, looking for beauty in all the little things he finds.
Awarded at festivals with nature and tourism themes, he believes that knowledge is the key to humanity’s next step and that audiovisuals have an important role in it.















Joaquim Beteriano

Born in Trás-os-Montes, Joaquim Beteriano holds a Master’s degree in Multimedia, primarily focusing on nature photography.
He collaborated with the Vila Real Science Center, developing various projects to promote and raise awareness of biodiversity, notably participating in the execution of the Natural Heritage Exhibition of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro.
A nature lover, he has dedicated much of his work to capturing images of biodiversity in order to raise awareness about the protection of increasingly threatened ecosystems.
In 2016, he collaborated on the production of the documentary “Wonderful Kingdom – through the lands of Alvão and Marão,” which aired on SIC.
In 2017, he was one of the driving forces behind the International Nature Image Festival (FIIN), and until 2023, he was a member of the festival’s organizing committee.
He recently co-founded GreenEye Wildlife Image, a brand whose main mission is to raise awareness and preserve biodiversity through the power of images.






Rui Guerra

Rui Guerra has been doing underwater filming for major brands like BOOKING, ERGOMOTION, VRBO, OURA, DEBEERS, EASYJET, MCDONALDS, HUAWEI, LYCRA, NIVEA, MEO, SUPER BOCK GROUP, AZEITE GALLO, TMN, LUSO, ÁGUA DAS PEDRAS, SUMOL, among others. He started in underwater photography back in 1990, using only free diving, she’s first competition was in1997, having won several titles including six National Champion titles, World Vice-Champion, World Champion in Wide Angle With Diver category, amongst several gold, silver and bronze medals. Author of the technical book “Practical Manual of Underwater Photography” He is a professional diver, CMAS instructor of underwater photography, video and diving, being more then once CMAS Technical Delegate at World Championships of Underwater Video and Underwater Photography. Juror or director in several film festivals and competitions. He makes underwater filming for advertising, videoclips and movies, being a founding partner of the company Photoguerra – Underwater Productions, Lda. Certified in cave diving, deep dive and trimix with rebreathers, he has a special taste for extreme environments and big pelagic marine life.
